I saw Whisper House at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego the other night.
So good!
Go see it.

Heavy Metal
From the Los Angeles Times Sunday Magazine:
"Jane Hallworth’s 1955 Spartan Aircraft Imperial Mansion All-Aluminum Trailercoach is completely reconstructed and re-imagined.
The caravan sports an array of elegant, unexpected details and finishes, including an interior skin of sumptuous reclaimed rosewood, sleek modern hardware and a full Miele kitchen."
We like.

Creative Grass
Planting a lawn is now considered an act of eco-terrorism.
I still love the look of grass and these options turn the idea of grass on its head.
Also could be done with astro-turf....

R.I.P. J.D.
J.D. Salinger, author of iconic American novels The Catcher in the Rye and Franny and Zooey, died at age 91.
Salinger was a known recluse, and hadn't published anything since 1965.

The Harbour Chronicles Coming To OCC
From The Surfer's Journal:
TSJ is pleased to announce The Harbour Chronicles: A Life in Surfboard Culture. This exhaustive and immersive installation will be unveiled February 13 at the Orange Coast College Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion. Harbour Surfboards were the preferred equipage of innumerable 1960s hot shoes, including Mark Martinson, Dave Reed, Roy Crump, Jackie Eberle, and Greg Tucker. The show will feature the recreation of three shaping rooms, dozens of referenced models, a series of interpretive didactic panels, and a chance to see what most surfboard historians consider to be the finest color laminations of the period. In other words, the shit.
The show, which is being curated by Mitchell De Jarnett and Greg Escalante under the direction of Andrea Harris, runs through April 9, and is made possible thanks to the good people at Honolua Surf Co. An accompanying book will be available, featuring written contributions from Steve Pezman, C.R. Stecyk III, Chris Sardelis, and Mike Marshall.

Boundary Hotel
A new hotel in the Shoreditch neighborhood of East London from Sir Terrance Conran.
Located in a converted Victorian warehouse, Boundary includes 3 restaurants and bars, 12 guest bedrooms, 5 suites, a bakery and a food store.
Of course we have been a fan of Sir Terrance for forever now, I'm sure it's fantastic.

Art History Simplified
From the Third Drawer Down website:
"The prize for the best art history goes without doubt to Vuk Vidor, an artist from Belgrade working in Paris. His mural called ‘Art History’ is a list; on each line he links an artist to his/her cultural impact in three words.
He is so efficient that he tackles over 30 in his piece. So for example he writes “Mondrian owns Geometry”, “Pollock owns Drippings”, “Warhol owns Pop”, “Botero owns Fat” and “Munch owns Despair”.
Love this.

Dark Nostalgia
From Flavor Wire:
"A new tome by design correspondent Eva Hagberg, Dark Nostalgia coins a nickname for the cozy vintage trend in interiors.
Bouncing from New York to London to Portland, Hagberg presents 25 projects by the likes of Roman & Williams, Julian Schnabel, and AvroKO to illustrate how cutting-edge designers are now working on an intimate scale. The glass skyscrapers and sleek white boxes of the early 21st century have put on a few layers — mainly polished leather, velvet, reclaimed wood, and heavy metals.
The new look is keenly idealized, and by utilizing such tactile materials, which were commonplace in bygone eras, modern antiquarians evoke a time and place that feels at once familiar and mysterious."
