Are You An Eco-Terrorist?

"Eco-Terrorists" are what landscaper John Greenlee labels people who have grass lawns.
Rather severe, but we get the point.
His new book, “The American Meadow Garden: Creating a Natural Alternative to the Traditional Lawn.” again takes direct aim at lawns.
bettershelter is a fan of NO LAWNS.
Lawns are wasteful and completely non-sustainable.....

For more info on what sort of options you have instead of a lawn, go to the Lawn Reform website

Victory Gardens!

We are creating victory gardens for a number of the homes we are working on.
Some of the yards are so big, I could not just lay down a lawn, so not cool!
Our future happy homeowners will be living off the land!

Spotted In Atwater Village

It is nice to see victory gardens taking shape in people's yards, imagine growing and eating your own food.
Take that, Whole Foods!

Plant A Victory Garden

We are in the process of designing landscape plans for a number of projects.
We like the idea of victory gardens in the front yards.
"During World War I and World War II, the United States government asked its citizens to plant gardens in order to support the war effort. Millions of people planted gardens. In 1943, Americans planted over 20 million Victory Gardens, and the harvest accounted for nearly a third of all the vegetables consumed in the country that year. Emphasis was placed on making gardening a family or community effort -- not a drudgery, but a pastime, and a national duty."

We like the idea of these gardens making a comeback.
